- Location and origin
Built in 2000 on the old winery of Justo del Pozo Olmeda, Tagonius Winery was founded in the year 1860.
We have a wide and modern facilities located in Tielmes de Tajuna, Madrid, with a milling capacity of 900000 kg and processing up to one million liters. Our barrels room contains more than 1000 barrels of the most prestigious French and American oak wood.
In continuous process of evolution and improvement we continue developing our facilities to improve the quality of our wines respecting at all times the natural processes that are part of the spirit of the winery.
- Vineyards
The different plots are located 45km southeast of Madrid, in Tielmes de Tajuna and adjacent municipalities. They are lands of great fertility, bathed by the Vega of the river Tajuna, affluent of the Tagus. This area is characterized by being the cradle of wines that were consumed in the royal court in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Tagonius has 32ha of vineyards on property and a selection of plots managed 100% by us.
We emphasize that in this whole area is made more than 50% of the total wine produced in the Denomination of Origin of Madrid.
In our case, all the grapes that are worked in the winery are located within the D.O. Madrid. In our lands, carefully studied and cataloged by our oenologist, are cultivated mainly four varieties of different wine varieties: Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Malvar. The work of sowing is always carried out under the premise of precision viticulture with the aim of making the most of the grapes. Our winemaker and his work team take into account the quality of the land and the variety of grapes, able to withstand very cold winters and hot summers.
All these factors, together with the meticulous process of manual picking and selection, make our wines have a unique and characteristic flavor of Bodega Tagonius.
